Olympic diver Tom Daley and his filmmaker husband Dustin Lance Black have welcomed their first child.
Similarly to the announcement of their engagement in 2015, the couple shared the news in The Times today (June 30). The notice in the births section revealed that their baby boy Robert Ray, was born on Wednesday.
The announcement read: “BLACK-DALEY On 27th June 2018 to Thomas Robert Daley and Dustin Lance Black, a son, Robert Ray.”

The baby name is a beautiful tribute to Tom’s late father Robert, who sadly passed away in 2011 after battling brain cancer.
After the news broke this morning, both Tom and Dustin have shared their delight and adoration for their new son on Instagram.
Tom and Dustin announced that they were expecting a child via surrogacy on Valentine’s Day. Back in March, the couple spoke to Fearne Cotton about becoming parents on her Happy Place podcast series.
Tom said: “I know we’ll do our absolute best to try and raise our child the way our parents raised us. To be surrounded by love is the most important thing.”
“When you know that you’re becoming parents, you just wanna shout about it, it’s one of those feelings like I’ve never ever felt before in my life, it’s been a long process. We had the names for our children within a week of knowing each other, we knew from the beginning we wanted a family.”
Dustin added: “We broke every first rule date there is, I think we talked about marriage and then named our children!”
The couple also spoke about the criticism they faced after it was announced that they were having a child via surrogacy.
“With Kim Kardashian West, people felt sorry she’s not able to have to have a child because of health reasons ‘how lovely it is that a surrogate has been willing to do that’,” Tom said. “But for every other gay couple that is not able to have a child, but desperately would love to bring up a child like any heterosexual couple, we have been treated quite differently.”
We couldn’t be happier for Tom and Dustin and we wish them all the happiness as they embark on the next stage of their life with their bundle of joy, Robert Ray.
