Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes has blasted a fan account over 'short, stupid memories' following the club's 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.

The Magpies were outclassed by the Premier League champions at the Etihad on Saturday as Eddie Howe's struggled to create any clear-cut chances.

It led to popular Newcastle Twitter account @NUFC360, which boasts over 141,000 followers, to pose a question to the club's fanbase.

Posting a picture of Bruno alongside Dan Burn, Miguel Almiron and Joelinton, the page said: "Is it too early in the season to start focusing blame onto individual players?

"Was there an overreaction to the loss to Man City?"

Brazil international Bruno was left seething by the comment, as he furiously hit back in a now-deleted tweet.

Bruno was quick to remind the account that Newcastle were in a relegation battle when he joined from Lyon for £30million.

And in just 18 months, Newcastle have secured a top four spot to bring Champions League football back to St James' Park for the first time since 2003.

The 25-year-old replied: "Is this serious?

“We are [playing] in Champions League football, we lost against maybe one of the best teams in the world and we have a big win [vs Aston Villa] and lost one game!

“Support in the best moment is easy!

"Short, stupid memories you all have. Look what we have done for the team [in] this 1 year and [a] half.”

Quick to offer their apologies to Bruno, the account in question responded: "We are with you Bruno Guimaraes.

"This post was a way to try and focus on the craziness of those trying to find players to blame after two games.

"I’m sorry if this was not expressed in that manner. NUFC360 is behind all of our players."

Newcastle will be looking to get back to winning ways on Sunday when they welcome Liverpool to Tyneside.
