The Royal Lahaina Resort & Bungalows hosted an Ohana Appreciation Dinner for all resort employees and their families on Oct. 23.
The event, hosted at the resort’s luau grounds, was in recognition of the many in-house staff who lost their homes to the Lahaina wildfires, along with the collective resort team and the community.
Two hundred people attended the dinner that included a buffet-style meal, two local musicians, an oli and blessing, a slideshow and family activities that included face painting, temporary tattoos, cotton candy, snow cones and more. Many team members also put on impromptu hula performances.
Since the Aug. 8 Lahaina fire, the Royal Lahaina Resort has worked with the Red Cross to shelter more than 1,000 displaced Maui residents, a quarter of whom are employees and their families. The resort continues to offer a variety of aid and health services on property and has fully committed all rooms to support fire evacuees through the end of 2024. Royal Ocean Terrace Restaurant, Royal Scoop ice cream shop, Royal Trading Company and wedding event spaces at the hotel will remain open to the public.
