The reason for a horrific automobile wreck outside of an upstate New York concert venue that left two people dead and numerous more injured is being looked into by the FBI and local authorities.

A car carrying gasoline canisters collided with a crowd of people leaving a concert in Rochester, upstate New York, early on Monday, killing two and injuring five.

According to CNN, which cited a source close to the inquiry, Michael Avery of Syracuse, New York, has been named as a suspect in the incident.

CNN said that they had found an alleged Avery suicide note and journal. Law enforcement officials have also conducted interviews with his family members.

According to ABC News, which cited an unidentified law enforcement official, police are looking into the incident, which happened just one hour into the new year, as potentially being related to domestic terrorism.

On Monday around 12.50 a.m. ET, an accident occurred outside the Kodak Center in Rochester.

After a New Year’s Eve event featuring the jazz group Moe, over a thousand people were departing the entertainment facility.

At a press conference on Monday, Rochester Police Chief David Smith stated that a Ford Expedition collided with a Mitsubishi Outlander that was leaving a nearby parking lot.

Both cars were involved in an accident that resulted in them colliding with other cars and a group of pedestrians.

After that, the two cars burst into flames and detonated. Firefighters spent over an hour battling to put out the fire.

The Mitsubishi Outlander’s two occupants perished. With potentially fatal injuries, the Ford Expedition’s driver was transported to a nearby hospital.

At least twelve gas canisters were discovered by the police inside and outside the Ford Expedition.

Malik Evans, the mayor of Rochester, expressed his sympathies to the families of the victims during the press conference and prayed for the injured and deceased.

Evans continued, “We have several people whose families’ lives have changed because they won’t be around to welcome in 2024.”

In a statement about the disaster, the band MOE described it as a “tragedy that defies understanding.”

The band declared, “Our thoughts are with those who were injured, and our hearts go out to the family and friends of those who lost their lives.”
