Who Was Julia Murray?
A 21-year-old woman living in Glynn County, Julia Murray seemed ordinary to those around her. Known as quiet and reserved, she was devoted to her two children, Creighton and Ansli.
In spite of the horrifying and inexplicable nature of her actions, she had no criminal record or violent history.
The 911 Call and Confession
The 911 call that fateful day sent shockwaves throughout the emergency services. “I just killed my two kids,” Julia Murray calmly admitted to drowning her 4-year-old daughter.
As the dispatcher, John Girton, tried to keep her on the line, hoping she would be able to save the children’s lives, he couldn’t believe his ears.
It was too late, however. It was now evident that what had transpired had been horrific.
John Girton was shocked and devastated to hear that Julia Murray had not only confessed to her crime but had done so in such a matter-of-fact manner.
He knew he had to act fast, but by the time he arrived to the scene, the children were already dead.

Investigators put together a timeline of events leading up to the tragedy as they probed the case.
Julia Murray’s family and friends were interviewed in an attempt to find any clues or signs that might explain her sudden descent into darkness, but no obvious motive emerged, leaving authorities and community members puzzled.
There were no signs of any financial hardship or marital issues, and Julia had been working in a stable job with a good salary. She was also well-liked and had no known enemies.

Julia Murray call details
The 911 phone operator noted that Murray sounded highly calm when she answered the call. Her voice was emotionless and monotone.
In disbelief, the operator asked Murray to repeat what she had said about killing them.
Murray, the 21-year-old Glynn County mother, responded, “I drownded them… They are 2 and 4,” before a long pause interrupted only by her ragged, gasping breaths.
Less than a minute later, she shot herself as the operator pleaded for her to explain what had happened.
As the operator repeatedly asked, “Are you there? Are you all right?” Murray responded slowly and softly, sounding confused.
Murray finally broke from her composed demeanor and said, “No. I just shot myself… with a gun… please hurry.”
These were the last words she spoke during the nearly 2-minute call she made shortly after drowning her daughter, Ansli, 4, and nearly drowning her son, Creighton, 2, at their Baumgardner Road home.
Glynn County police officers discovered Murray lying mortally wounded in a room beside a .357-Magnum revolver.
In the children’s bedroom, they found the still-wet bodies of her son and daughter, lying next to each other in bed as if they had been tucked in for the night. There were no visible signs of injuries other than those indicating drowning.
Murray, Ansli, and Creighton were taken to Southeast Georgia Health System’s Brunswick hospital.
Ansli passed away at 10:44 a.m., and Murray died at 11:57 a.m. Creighton was stable at the time he was taken to the hospital, according to County Coroner Jimmy Durden.
Funeral details
A four-wheeling adventure with Ansli Murray, 4, and her younger brother, Creighton, was eagerly anticipated by Sam Foskey.
Instead, Foskey finds himself traveling to Brunswick for the funeral of Ansli, who met a heartbreaking fate at the hands of her mother, Julia Murray.
Murray drowned Ansli before nearly doing the same to Creighton, affectionately known as C.J., and ultimately taking her own life during a chilling 911 call where she calmly confessed to the unspeakable.
During a candid telephone interview with The Times-Union from his home, Foskey expressed his confusion and grief.
Like Murray’s family, Foskey grapples with the weight of sorrow as the children’s paternal grandfather.
As Murray, 21, dialled 911 for an ambulance on Tuesday morning, she admitted chillingly, “I just killed my two children.”. Between desperate gasps for breath, she dialed 911 for Glynn County.
The woman admitted tearfully, “I drowned them,” before uttering her final words, “I just shot myself…with a gun…Please hurry.”
Ansli and Creighton were discovered together on the bed of their bedroom. While Creighton survived, Ansli tragically died.
Despite the fact that investigators, including Glynn County Police Capt. Marissa Tindale, have yet to establish a motive for Murray’s unthinkable action; they believe that the children were submerged in a bathtub by Murray.
Fortunately, Creighton is expected to make a full recovery and has been discharged from Southeast Georgia Health System’s Brunswick hospital as of Wednesday morning.
Murray’s older sister, A.J., shared a statement about the family being blindsided by the loss, saying there had been no warning signs.
Why are murder-suicides increasing day by day?
According to a study by the Violence Policy Center, murder-suicides are shockingly common in the United States, with an estimated 11 such incidents occurring each week.
There is a strong correlation between gun violence and the frequency and lethality of murder-suicides, as firearms are frequently used in murder and suicide.
A number of steps are being taken to combat this issue, including improving access to mental health services, educating people about the warning signs of domestic violence, and implementing stricter gun control laws.
As part of these steps, individuals at risk are identified, support and resources are provided, and lethal means are reduced.
