Jonah Hauer-King is a British actor. He has had leading roles in the films Postcards from London, Ashes in the Snow, A Dog’s Way Home, The Song of Names, This Is the Night, and, as Prince Eric, in Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid (2023), and on television’s Howards End, Little Women (2017), World on Fire, Agatha and the Curse of Ishtar, and The Flatshare.
He is the son of Debra Hauer, a theatre producer and therapist, and Jeremy King, a restaurateur. His sister is theatre, comedy, cabaret, and musical director Hannah Hauer-King. He was raised in his mother’s Jewish faith. He attended Eton College.
In an interview with a Cambridge magazine, Jonah said:
My mum is American, my dad is English, and I grew up in a North London Jewish family. There seem to be a few of us in Cambridge!
Jonah’s paternal grandmother’s surname is Chinn.
Jonah’s maternal grandfather was named Samuel David Hauer (the son of Morris Hauer and Anne). Samuel was a surgeon. He was born in Poland, and moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to escape the Nazis in the 1930s. He was in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII, and moved to California in 1950, where he was a founder of Temple Isaiah. Morris was born in Stashev, Poland, and was an Orthodox Jew.
Jonah’s maternal grandmother is Mildred Harris (the daughter of Louis/Lou Harris and Bessie Farb). Mildred was also from a Toronto-based Polish Jewish family. Louis was the son of Lazar Samer/Sittsamer and Dina. Bessie was the daughter of Shimshon Farb.
