Dancing with the Stars: Week Six Recap

With no duo heading home last week, the remaining couples made sure to bring their hottest Latin Night dances to the ballroom. Although, one pair did not make it past the end of the evening. The Monday night elimination was based on a combination of the judges’ scores and fans’ votes from last week’s “Most Memorable Year” performances. We ended up saying goodbye to Amber Rose and partner Maks, who had just danced the Cha Cha and received 7s across the board, including from guest judge, Pitbull. Read below to see how the remaining eight couples did.

Ryan & Cheryl- Salsa

There is nothing we love more than seeing the shirtless swimmer strut his stuff. Julianne saw quite a commitment from Ryan, from the spray tan to the neon lights. Although, she was expecting (and probably wishing) for the Olympian to be rocking a speedo. Bruno thought the performance was fun and the definition of a vibrant Salsa; however, Carrie Ann said the musicality was not that great. But, she did not deny the fact it was a great way to start off the evening.

Terra & Sasha- Paso Doble

Terra has shown exceptional progress throughout the competition so far. Julianne thought her Paso Doble was executed with fire, but it was not her best dance compared to others. She still believed Terra was giving it everything she had. Bruno added that she always goes for it “like a fierce little tiger,” mentioning that the song is difficult because the phrasing is so intricate. He also didn’t think it was as sharp as it could have been. Carrie Ann saw the dance itself as a difficulty for Terra and her disabilities but knows she will come back from this week because there is another week and another dance.

James & Sharna- Rumba

James is such a showstopper! After learning about his almost fatal crash last week, it’s an absolute blessing that he is on that dance floor performing like a true star. Carrie Ann called everyone else’s performances “chips and salsa.” James and Sharna’s on the other hand, was the entire entrée, the “enchiladas” as she put it. Julianne said James is the best male dancer that has ever been on the show. Her only piece of criticism is she would have liked to see more chemistry between the duo. Bruno disagreed, arguing that the two should have gotten the Nobel Prize for chemistry as their dance was “peach perfect.”

Maureen & Arteem- Samba

Maureen’s constant waterworks every week are beginning to be a bit too much for us, but at the end of the day, she does have an incredible and positive outlook when it comes to this competition. Bruno thought the former actress performed a classic Samba, but tells her not to force the bounce in the routine. Carrie Ann recognized her positivity as contagious. Pitbull mentioned there was a lot of overthinking when it came to her moves. Julianne believed Maureen and Arteem’s performance captured the essence of what Latin Night is all about.

Marilu & Derek- Cha Cha

Marilu is always a pleasure to watch because it’s evident she is really enjoying her DWTS experience. Her Cha Cha lived to please this week. Julianne commented on how stunning her legs were, while Bruno said she had managed to be graceful, yet sexy. He also recognized the smooth changes of tempo. Carrie Ann thought it was Marilu’s best dance yet, sensing so much confidence. She did however, notice one moment that could have “felt better,” referencing the idea of “look good, feel good.”

Jana & Gleb- Argentine Tango

Three words: HOT. HOT. HOT. This is one of the most flawless performances we have seen on Dancing with the Stars to date and definitely the sexiest Argentine Tango! How could it not be when the props included a bed and a shower? Bruno called the performance sensational, while Julianne thanked Jana for taking the judges’ advice week after week. Pitbull channeled his inner Bruno, adding that he “can’t keep his hands to himself.” (Pun reference since the duo danced to Selena Gomez’s hit, “Hands To Myself.”) Carrie Ann said there is no denying that Jana is in it to win that mirror ball. The pair rightfully earned their first perfect score of the season.

Calvin & Lindsay- Argentine Tango

Jana and Gleb’s sensational performance may have been hard to live up to, but Calvin and Lindsay didn’t fail to shine during their own Argentine Tango to “Hotel California.” Carrie Ann thought the lifts were outstanding and said that Calvin really owned the dance with such “magnetic intensity.” Bruno thought Calvin was really in the zone and led every single moment that the performance had to offer. Julianne called the dance “amazing,” adding a slight amount of criticism when it came to Calvin needing to point his toes.

Laurie & Val- Salsa

Last but not least, another strong performance from Laurie and Val, who have been frontrunners to win the mirror ball since the beginning of the competition. Julianne said Laurie is phenomenal, but since she can see how great the gymnast is, wants to point out what she can improve on. Julianne would like to see Laurie work on her hip movement and using her entire body, while Bruno refers to Laurie as a “chickie salsa devil.” He thought her and Val killed that Salsa. Carrie Ann too thought it was incredible, but did see a few minor missteps.
