As people around the world continue to navigate their way through the complexities of everyday life post the darkness of 2020 and 2021, Charlie Simpson provides fans with an optimistic ray of light today (April 22nd) in the form of his fourth studio album, ‘Hope Is A Drug’.

Featuring the singles ‘I See You’, ‘Blameless’, ‘One Of Us’ and ‘All the Best’, the record serves as the follow up to 2015’s ‘Little Hands’ and arrives a mere few months after the runaway success of Simpson’s sold out show at London’s O2 Kentish Town Forum last November, where he debuted some of the albums material, live for the first time.

Having sought refuge in the safety of his home-made recording studio during the first national lockdown two years ago, Simpson channeled any feelings of trepidation and anxiety he may have been feeling due to the destructive nature of the pandemic, into his music – adopting a fresh approach to his songwriting and exploring with a mix of new sonic sounds, by merging confessional lyrics with vocodered vocals and alt-pop synths, to produce his most personal, and profound work to date.

Commenting on the premise and overall message of the album, the Busted and Fightstar says: “Everyone has been touched by the feeling of hope. It’s fascinating how the human psyche has the endless capacity for optimism as a mechanism for overcoming adversity. The effects of hope are like a powerful drug, and it’s inspired me to return to the theme time and time again in my lyrics.”

In support of the albums release, Charlie is set to tour the U.K. and Ireland next month playing a string of live shows up and down the country, in cities including Leeds, Norwich, Birmingham, Brighton and London, before wrapping up in Dublin at The Green Room on Sunday, May 29th.

Promising audiences a night they won’t forget, the ‘Parachutes’ singer tells fans he plans to play a mix of new songs and old favourites, as well teasing some surprise on-stage moments too! Remaining tickets for the tour are available here.

‘Hope Is A Drug’ is available to download / stream now.
